Minilla (Japanese: ミニラ Hepburn: Minira) is a kaiju who first appeared in Toho's 1967 film Son of Godzilla. It is not the offspring of Godzilla, and is sometimes referenced as Minya in the American dubbed versions.
Overview
Introduced in Son of Godzilla, Minilla was born on Sollgel Island, when his egg was prematurely cracked open by a group of mutant giant mantises called Kamacuras. Godzilla soon arrived, killed two of the Kamacuras, and rescued Minilla. Godzilla proceeded to train Minilla and defended it against further attacks from the final Kamacuras and the giant spider Kumonga. Godzilla and Minilla were placed in hibernation when a group of scientists completed a weather experiment, resulting in the freezing of their island. The monsters were revived when the snow melted, and eventually relocated to Monster Island, as seen via stock footage in Godzilla vs. Gigan.
In Destroy All Monsters, Minilla, Godzilla, and many other Earth monsters live on a new island called Monsterland. Together they battle the three-headed space dragon King Ghidorah at Mount Fuji. They kill Ghidorah and save planet Earth. After, Minilla and the other monsters return to Monsterland.
In Godzilla: Final Wars, Minilla accompanies a young boy and the boy's grandfather on an adventure around Japan before convincing his father not to attack the crew of the Gotengo, afterwards leaving with Godzilla into the ocean. Minilla, aka Minya, is born prematurely from an egg buried on Zolgel Island. It hasthe appearance of an infant kaiju with light gray skin. Before hatching, when the buried egg is threatened, it sends a powerful radio signal that attracts Godzilla to the island. Like Godzilla, Minilla can release its internal energy as a Heatwave. Because it is underdeveloped, the Heatwave appears as a sequence of doughnut like “smoke rings.” After Godzilla steps hard on Minilla’s tail, the surprised infant generates the extra energy needed to produce a focused Heatwave similar to Godzilla’s.
The children's web-series Godziban has Minilla and Little Godzilla co-existing as Godzilla's kid brothers, embarking on many misadventures while Godzilla tries to teach them important monster skills. Godzilla: Final Wars (ゴジラ ファイナル ウォーズ, Gojira Fainaru Wōzu) is a 2004 kaiju film directed by Ryuhei Kitamura, written by Isao Kiriyama and Wataru Mimura, and produced by Shogo Tomiyama. An international co-production between Japan, Australia, the United States, and China, the film was produced by Toho Studios, CP International, Zazou Productions, and Napalm Films. It is the 29th film in the Godzilla franchise, the sixth and final film in the franchise's Millennium series and the 28th Godzilla film produced by Toho. The film stars Masahiro Matsuoka, Rei Kikukawa, Don Frye, Maki Mizuno, Kazuki Kitamura, Kane Kosugi, Kumi Mizuno, Kenji Sahara, Masami Nagasawa, Chihiro Otsuka, Shigeru Izumiya, Masakatsu Funaki, Masato Ibu, Jun Kunimura, and Akira Takarada. In the film, when a mysterious race of aliens known as the Xiliens arrive on Earth, the Earth Defense Force find themselves locked in battle with various monsters attacking cities around the world, leading them to revive the only chance to save their planet: Godzilla. The film coincided with the 50th anniversary of the franchise, and as such, the film features a variety of actors and kaiju from previous films. Godzilla: Final Wars premiered on November 29, 2004 in Los Angeles, California, and was released theatrically in Japan on December 4, 2004. Before the world premiere, Godzilla received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
