Vintage Original Hasbro Transformers G1 Autobot Ironhide 80s Toy Action Figure
I recently found a large number of toys that haven’t been seen since I boxed them up for a move in 1989. Yes, I was an 80s kid, and my tastes ran the whole gamut of awesome 80s pop culture. While most of them are Transformers, there are GI Joe, Masters of the Universe, and Gobots. But only a few Gobots because the show kind of sucked. These toys are all vintage originals from the greatest decade in history. So many precious memories, but you can’t keep everything. Well, technically, you can. I call it sentimentality; my therapist calls it hoarding. Potato, potahto. She’s so silly.
First, my standard disclaimer about older toys in general: Toys of this vintage are like people of this vintage. Stuff can become loose, stuff can become stiff, or stuff can stay just right. Old stuff is old.
Ironhide always was a tough old coot. He could take a pounding and still fight, even if he had to crawl (RIP animated movie Ironhide). So I guess it’s appropriate that Ironhide just straight up got his arm snapped off during his photoshoot today. I always warn folks that these old Transformers can be fragile. Often, their joints don’t move as freely. Either that, or they move too freely. Ironhide wasn’t moving too freely when I tried to get him out of vehicle mode, and I just straight up broke the old dude’s arm off. I’m sorry, Ironhide. You deserved more respect than that. Thank you for your sacrifice so that I’ll know to be more careful from now on. Again, this toy’s right arm is detached. The arm snapped off at the joint .
It’s such that it might can be glued back on, but I don’t know. I don’t want to do any more damage than I’ve already done.
Note that his altmode still looks fine and performs adequately. The right arm, and in turn the right fender/tire, seems to stay put for display purposes and gentle usage (see Photo A
). That may not continue to be the case over time, however. I have slashed the price of this item significantly due to Ironhide being all maimed and stuff.
Like most of my Transformers, Ironhide’s box is long gone because in 1989 I was too stupid of a kid to think that one day the action figures would be more valuable with the box. He does come with his tech specs
, though. Also included is static laser gun, gun post, and only one missile
—it originally came with three.
TL;DR: Right arm is snapped off
  • , but included. Possibly can be repaired.
  • No box. Tech specs and a some accessories are included.
  • Minor wear inherent in toys of this age.
  • Please check out the pictures to see his condition and for what's included. *Item sold as is.*
Packaged carefully and securely and shipped via USPS First Class, and it is also available practically everywhere via the Pricetronic International Shipping Program.
Feel free to ask any questions, and thanks for looking! If you want, check my other listings. I'm routinely adding new items because I'm bored out of my skull. Ok, bye! Toy details from the Transformers Wiki, for informational purposes only:
    Ironhide (1984)
Accessories: "Static Laser Gun", gun post, 3 missiles
Ironhide was part of the original assortment of Autobot cars released in 1984, transforming into a red Nissan Sunny-Vanette Coach SGL and sharing his mold with the contemporaneously released Ratchet. Ironhide splits when he transforms, with most of the rear section of his van mode transforming into a battle platform, and the remainder becoming his rather misshapen, headless robot form. The robot can mount onto the battle platform, which is armed with a raising missile launcher and front-mounted "Static Laser Gun". Unusually for toys of this period, the Static Laser Gun can actually store when Ironhide is in vehicle mode, plugging into his undercarriage (although the missiles for his launcher and the peg required to attach the laser don't go anywhere).
As with all his fellow Autobot Cars from that year, Ironhide's mold derived from Takara's Diaclone line, a series which was not about sentient robots, but rather human-controlled machines. The Ironhide and Ratchet molds are the ones that most clearly show evidence of this: in place of a head, these toy robots had chairs behind windscreens where the human rider would control the robot. The figures did include stickers to go over these seats that depicted a sort of robot face, but when Ironhide and Ratchet's character models were created for Transformers media, all traces of the human-controlled design were removed to give the robots proper faces and heads, ultimately creating the two designs which diverged the most from the toys on which they were ostensibly based.
The stripe on the side of his vehicle mode (a sticker on the toy) is actually based on a special edition of the Nissan Cherry Vanette. On the real vehicle, the rear section (which is black on the toy's sticker) is actually the sliding rear door rail.
For unknown reasons, Ironhide was the only Autobot Car not released by Takara as part of their original retail line in any form (while Ratchet was not available at retail, he was available as a S.T.A.R.S. mail away item). Ironhide was reissued several times; this article lists each reissue separately where appropriate. Character details from the Transformers Wiki, for entertainment purposes only:
Ironhide is an Autobot and later Maximal from the Generation 1 continuity family.
    Properly pronounced "Arn-hahhhd".
Ironhide is one of the oldest and toughest Autobots, and has been on Optimus Prime's team for a long time. "They don't make them like they used to" is an apt description of Ironhide—he's yesterday's model, but he's built to last.
Gruff and ornery, he prefers actions to words, and dislikes talk for talk's sake. (He wouldn't enjoy being paired up with Bluestreak.) But though he may be rough around the edges, he's still optimistic and upbeat. The upside to being through more than your share of trouble means trouble ain't so big a scare anymore.
Ironhide's most distinctive ability is the water gun, a weapon which can generate and shoot a liquid of virtually any type. Liquid nitrogen is historically a favorite, but there have been acids, mortar, and more.
His vehicle mode sometimes splits into his robot and a separate component. In some universes, he can combine with his fellow Autobots to form Optimus Maximus or Betatron. In other timelines, he will survive the Great War, joining forces with other Autobot veterans to form Magnaboss. "When are we gonna start bustin' Deceptichops? "-- Ironhide's version of diplomacy, The Transformers: The Movie.
