The Wolverine Toy Company, founded in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, manufactured children's toys from 1908-1984. Their competition at the time consisted of the famous Hasbro and Fisher-Price Toy companies. The company name came from the Michigan Wolverines, being that the owner of the toy company was born and raised in the state of Michigan. The companies first set of toys to be manufactured, including the Sunny Andy toy, were made from mechanical tin, pressed steel, and were also sand-operated. The original creator of the Sunny Andy toy later passed after the initial design of the toy. The owner of Wolverine, Benjamin Bain, then decided to manufacture the toy in his own factory.
